Postcard from Kochi

I have spent three days wandering through the broad tree-lined roads of Fort Kochi, full of store fronts and home stays and boutique hotels that seem plucked out of a Colonial fairytale. We walk for most, and then halt more than that, entering doorways more welcoming than I have ever seen. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale’s contemporary art isn’t an anomaly that stands out in this retro landscape. It’s the cool granny with that tiny, or heck, big tattoo on her ankle. It’s hard to describe the feeling in words: the colours, the sounds and the smell. Oh the smell. Wafting through the warehouses, crawling through the windows, and shimmying up the barks of those ancient trees. Why B&W people ask? Because that is the only way to see how colourful it is.
